geohot has come through once again for the iPhone community. Earlier this morning he posted a video of blacksn0w


blacksn0w will unlock both the 3GS and 3G iPhones running 05.11.07 to use on any gsm carrier. blacksn0w will be bundled into a new blackra1n that will be available on November 4th. So if you accidentally updated or restored to 3.1.2 and lost your unlock, you are in luck!

Step 1: Update iTunes to the latest version available and reboot your computer. If your iPhone is not running OS 3.1.2, update your iPhone to firmware 3.1.2 in iTunes.

Step 2: Download BlackRa1n RC3 from our iPhone Downloads page.

Step 3: Plug your iPhone to your computer and make sure iTunes is closed. Run BlackRa1n RC3 and click on “make it ra1n”.



Step 4: Your iPhone will enter recovery mode and you will see the usual recovery image replaced by a picture of GeoHot.

Step 5: BlackRa1n will run on your iPhone and it will reboot when done.

Step 6: A message will show up asking to donate. If your jailbreak is successful, I think it’s the right thing to do to donate $5 or more. It’s a good way to keep GeoHot motivated.

Step 7: After your iPhone has rebooted, you will notice a new BlackRa1n icon on your springboard. Make sure you have an internet connection and launch BlackRa1n.app on your iPhone.



Step 8: You will now have the option to install Cydia, Rock, or both if you choose to, then tap “install”. You will also notice that Icy is gone and it’s been replaced by “sn0w”. Run “sn0w” only if you want to unlock your iPhone.



Step 9: Once the packages are installed, your iPhone will respring and you should see Cydia (and Rock if you chose it) on your springboard.



Step 10: Once Cydia and/or Rock are installed on your springboard, you can now uninstall BlackRa1n from your iPhone. Uninstalling BlackRa1n will obviously not remove the jailbreak. It will simply remove the BlackRa1n.app that was used to install the packages. To do so, simply launch the BlackRa1n.app and select “uninstall BlackRa1n”.



Step 11: After uninstalling BlackRa1n, I suggest you reboot your iPhone.

Open Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit
Add source "http://cydia.hackulo.us"
Section > Hackulo.us > "AppSynch for OS3.1">
Install > done.

Fix blacksn0w WiFi Youtube GPS Problem on iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware

Fix #1: Reset Network Settings
On your iPhone 3G and 3GS, navigate to Settings –> General –> Reset –> Reset Network Settings.

Step 2: A dialog will prompt you with “Reset Network Settings” button as shown in the screenshot below.


Step 3: Hit this button and turn off your iPhone by holding down power button on the top and then slide to turn off your phone. Now turn on your iPhone by holding down the power button on the top again until you see the Apple logo.


Resetting your network setting will fix your WiFi problem temporarily. The problem will come back once you have rebooted your iPhone again. You will have to reset your network settings pretty much every time you reboot your iPhone.

Fix #2: Install Push Fix App

Push Fix app from Cydia is used to fix Push Notifications on hacktivated iPhone 3.1.x firmware. I found out that installing this app also fixes all issues caused by blacksn0w related to WiFi, Youtube app and GPS along with Push Notifications on hacktivated iPhone’s.
Follow the steps below to install Push Fix app:

Step 1: First reset your network settings as mentioned in Fix #1 above to bring back WiFi temporarily. We need WiFi to install Push Fix app from Cydia.

Step 2: Now start “Cydia” on your iPhone. Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom and then on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:



Step 3: Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://cydia.iphoneil.net” and touch on “Add Source”.



Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

Step 4: After installation is completed. Search for “Push Fix” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically fix Push Notification System on your unlocked and jailbroken iPhone.

Step 5: Restart you iPhone.

Credit for Fix #2 goes to our reader Keneth_C. It should fix all issues related to WiFi, Youtube and GPS which some of you might have encountered when unlocking your iPhone with blacksn0w.[/LEFT]

How to jailbreak your iphone guide

What is a jailbreak?

Jailbreaking is the process required to install applications in your iPhone or iPod touch. It is a very easy procedure. It's also safe: There are no risks in this operation*, as you can easily use iTunes to restore your iPhone or iPod touch to the default factory settings. When you do that, the iPhone will be like new.

Why jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch from Apple's iron fist?


You should jailbreak your iPhone or iPod if you want to install really cool and useful applications that are not in the iTunes App Store. Many of these apps are a complete must for any iPhone user but are not allowed by Apple in their iTunes App Store.

This is what you can do with a phone that has been jailbroken:

• Use your iPhone as a 3G modem with your laptop.
• Record video using Cycorder.
• Unlock your iPhone installing a simple program, so you can use a pre-paid card when you go out on vacation instead of paying outrageous roaming charges.
• Follow speech turn-by-turn directions in a GPS program.
• Copy and paste (yes, copy and paste).
• Play Nintendo Entertainment System games and other emulated classic cames (like Monkey Island!)

In other words: Do it.

*WARNING* Of course, the usual do this at your own risk and we are not responsible caveats still apply, but this process is really fool proof thanks to Apple's iTunes factory reset. If you are looking to unlock your iPhone now or in the future, DON'T USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS or you won't be able to unlock it. You will need a different process, which we will explain in another How To.

Freeing your iPhone or iPod touch (all users)
Here's the easiest part: Running QuickPwn. QuickPwn is a program that will easily "jailbreak" your iPhone or iPod touch. Jailbreak, as the name says, just means breaking Apple's limitations on accessing your device, allowing you put anything you want in it. This means installing any application you want, and not only the ones that Apple allows you to install.

Step 1. Download QuickPwn for Mac OS X or Windows from any of the following links:

Step 2. Run QuickPwn and pick the kind of device you have: iPhone, iPhone 3G, or iPod Touch.

Step 3. Follow the instructions on the screen. QuickPwn is completely automated:

• Firstly, it will download all the necessary components from Apple on its own.

• Then the software will build a custom iPhone operating system, which includes Installer and Cydia, the two programs that will allow you to install the iPhone applications outside of the iTunes Apps Store microsystem.

• When QuickPwn asks you to enter your system password, do it. It's not malicious. It just needs this to work.

• Finally, follow the precisely timed instructions on the screen to put your device on DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode. QuickPwn will do the rest.

If something doesn't work, don't worry. Start the process again. If your device gets a bit nutty, restore it to default factory settings using iTunes, and you will be back to square one, no harm done.

Step 4. Be patient as your iPhone restarts. Once it's done, you are done too. It's fun time.

Installing the applications

This is where the fun starts. You will notice two new icons in your iPhone or iPod touch's springboard: One says "Installer" and the other says "Cydia". These are the two competing systems for installation of software. It doesn't really matter what you use to install your software. Most applications can be installed from both—there are exceptions, like xGPS, which can only be installed on Cydia—and both allow you to browse and install software from a a variety of sources.

• Browsing the catalogs. Whatever system you choose, installing applications is as easy as going through the available catalogs and picking the application you want.

• Manually adding applications. There will be times in which you will discover applications on the web which are not in the default catalogs in Cydia or Installer. Fortunately, you can add these by just entering the URL provided by the developer in the web page, a process that is referred to as "Adding a source". Here's how to do it:

• Click on "Manage."
• Click on "Sources."
• Click on "Edit" and then "Add."
• Enter the address in the dialog field.
• Click on "Add source."

• Click "Done" and get back to sources by clicking on "Sources."
